Welcome
Commercial Radio Company, Inc. is the world’s largest stocking distributor of Cornell-Dubilier (CDM) direct replacement mica transmitting capacitors for ACUSHNET, AEROVOX, CAPTRON, CDE, CDM, NWL, and SANGAMO types 291, 292, 293, 294, G1, G2, G3, G4, F1, F2, F3, 271, 272, and 273.
The owner's father, Dan Churchill, worked for General Radio for four years while studying at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. He went on to become an engineer at RCA, where he spent 25 years. In 1970, Churchill established Commercial Radio Company, Inc. after purchasing Radio Corporation of America’s vacuum tube inventory when the company rebranded as RCA and shifted to transistor-based electronics. His vision was to provide specialized expertise as a broadcast engineer to companies, universities, and individuals in need of service for radio transmitters and other apparatuses.
Dan Churchill passed away in 2023, and his only daughter, Centura Churchill, has since taken over the company. Today, we are focused on modernizing all aspects of the business to stay agile and help our customers align their needs with our products. Our goal is to once again become the leading supplier of specialized mica capacitors and other electronic components. Mica capacitors now have new applications in defense, wind, solar, and many other industries, and we look forward to collaborating with you as we continue our founder’s legacy from Cavendish, Vermont, as proud distributors of Cornell-Dubilier (CDM) Ultra High Reliability HV Radio Frequency Mica Capacitors.
Why Mica Capacitors are Superior
Mica capacitors are often used in high-frequency applications due to their excellent electrical properties that make them well-suited for such purposes. Here are some reasons why mica capacitors are preferred for high-frequency applications:
Stability: Mica capacitors are known for their stability over a wide range of temperatures and frequencies. This stability is crucial in high-frequency applications where maintaining consistent performance is essential.
Low loss factor: Mica capacitors have a low dielectric loss factor, which means they are able to store and release energy efficiently without significant loss. This property is particularly important in high-frequency circuits where energy losses can have a significant impact on performance.
High Q factor: Mica capacitors typically have a high Q factor, which is a measure of the efficiency of a capacitor. A high Q factor means that the capacitor can store energy with low losses, making it ideal for high-frequency applications where signal integrity is critical.
Low equivalent series resistance (ESR): Mica capacitors have low ESR, which is important for high-frequency applications where even small amounts of resistance can cause signal degradation.
High voltage capability: Mica capacitors can handle high voltages, making them suitable for high-frequency applications where voltage levels can be significant.
Low temperature coefficient: Mica capacitors exhibit a low temperature coefficient, meaning their capacitance remains relatively stable over a wide temperature range. This property is important in high-frequency applications where temperature variations can affect circuit performance.
Overall, the combination of high stability, low loss factor, high Q factor, low ESR, high voltage capability, and low temperature coefficient make mica capacitors a popular choice for high-frequency applications where precision and reliability are essential.
